Nevada is now accepting applications for recreational marijuana facilities.

The Department of Taxation began accepting applications Monday for businesses wanting to grow, produce and sell recreational marijuana. The licenses will allow medical marijuana dispensaries to sell cannabis products to adults 21 and older, with the goal of retail sales beginning July 1. The application deadline ends May 31.

As bills keep dying under pressure from the clock in the Texas Legislature, supporters of a bill to expand the use of marijuana for medical purposes are scrambling to keep it alive under pressing deadlines, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

“As stated in our party’s platform, the Texas Democratic Party believes that cannabis policy reform can improve public safety, boost our economy, and provide much-needed health care options for struggling Texans,” the Democratic Party said in a statement.

Ballot language submitted for marijuana legalization effort in Michigan

Ballot language was submitted to the state on Friday for approval. The petition language is awaiting approval from the Secretary of State’s Office, which will set the stage for a summer signature drive and a potential 2018 ballot proposal to legalize recreational marijuana use by adults.

The Coalition to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol is behind the initiative that would create five categories of licensed marijuana businesses, regulated by the state and subject to local control.

Marijuana has long been known for its psychoactive effects, which can include cognitive impairment. But new research published this week in Nature Medicine suggests the drug might affect older users very differently than young ones—at least in mice. Instead of impairing learning and memory as it does in young people, the drug appears to reverse age-related declines in the cognitive performance of elderly mice.
