In November 2016, voters passed an initiated measure known as the “North Dakota Compassionate Care Act“. On April 18, 2017, a new state law became effective requiring the North Dakota Department of Health to establish and implement a Medical Marijuana Program allowing for the production, processing, sale, and dispensing of usable and medical use marijuana. The department approved 2 manufacturing licenses and 8 dispensaries in North Dakota who must report seed to sale activity regularly.
