In 2004 Vermont adopted an Act Relating to the use of marijuana by persons with severe illness described in No. 135. The Department of Public Safety established the Marijuana Registry Program to implement the provisions of 18 V.S.A. Chapter 86, Therapeutic Use of Cannabis, as it pertains to registered medical marijuana patients, caregivers, and dispensaries in Vermont.
Who Oversees the Medical Program in Vermont?
The Vermont Marijuana Registry (VMR) reviews and processes applications, issues registry identification cards to residents of Vermont with verified debilitating medical conditions and evaluates the compliance of registered medical dispensaries. The VMR also strives to ensure registered patients are able to access cannabis for symptom relief in a timely manner, protect confidentiality, and prevent the diversion and theft of cannabis.
