Pennsylvania legalized medical marijuana in 2016 through the Pennsylvania Medical Marijuana Act (Act 16 of 2016). It was on February 15, 2018, that medical marijuana became available for patients at dispensaries across the state. This provided long overdue medical relief to patients. Pennsylvania’s medical marijuana program provides access to medical marijuana for patients with specific medical conditions.
Who Oversees the PA Medical Marijuana Program
The Pennsylvania Department of Health administers and enforces the MMJ program. The Department also oversees the licensing of medical establishments and issuing patient registration identification cards for the program. The department can only issue 25 permits for growers or processors. No more than five of these growers or processors could also be issued a dispensary permit.
