Oregon passed The Medical Marijuana Act, through Ballot Measure67 in 1998, which passed with 54.6% support. It modified state law to allow the cultivation, possession, and use of marijuana by doctor recommendation for patients with certain medical conditions. Patients obtain permits through the Oregon Department of Human Services.

The Oregon Medical Marijuana Program (OMMP) a division of the Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission is responsible for the registration, regulation and oversight of medical cannabis facilities in Oregon, including medical marijuana dispensaries, processors, growers, physicians, laboratories, and patient registration.
