In 2014 New York adopted the Compassionate Care Act (Bill A6357E) with Regulatory Amendments (12/27/17) and the Medical Marijuana Program Regulations (1/3/2018). New York State’s Medical Marijuana Program allows patients who suffer from specific serious conditions who also have a condition clinically associated with, or a complication of, the serious condition to be certified by a practitioner to receive medical cannabis products for medical use. Registered organizations are responsible for manufacturing and dispensing medical marijuana in New York State. Each registered organization is permitted by statute to have up to four dispensing facilities.
Who Oversees the Medical Marijuana Program?
The New York Department of Health oversees all aspects of the medical cannabis program including patient and caregiver registration, as well as the cultivation and sale of all medicated product.
New York Medical Sale Restrictions
The regulation of marijuana sales has defined purchase limitations for consumers. Patients are restricted from purchasing over a 30 day supply, as specified by their practitioner. These limitations are outlined in the New York Dispensary Standard Operating Procedures.
