Dispensary Manager's 101
Dispensary Managers typically oversee the daily operation of the dispensary, handling the needs of all employees and patients through departmental management. The Manager also works with other corporate support positions as needed including the marketing team and with the administrative team to ensure the stores, growth, organized recordkeeping and compliance with local and state regulations.
Priorities include the implementation of dispensary policies; the hiring, training and supervision of departmental management; the maintenance of statistical reports as they pertain to the daily operation of the dispensary; and representation of the dispensary’s mission and vision to elected officials, law enforcement, media, and the general public.
Essential Job Functions
- Ensure the dispensary’s full compliance with local and state regulation
- Implement and manage dispensary policies and procedures
- Maintain a safe environment for all patients and staff
- Oversee department managers and coach on a regular basis to ensure the dispensary’s excellence in service and labor practices within the community
- Coordinate Employee Reviews with Management Teams
- Oversee/Coordinate Schedules, Payroll Costs & Productivity, keeping schedules in line with production and costs consistent with company growth and sales.
- Coordinate with Marketing Manager to enable their efforts to develop social networks, update website text, and provide a forum for, public and internal education, in-store information, and feedback
- Develop plans of action when necessary to ensure the dispensary’s optimal operation and compliance
- Consult with the Accountant/Administration to manage budget and expenses, ensuring sound record-keeping and fiscal compliance
- Utilize the company’s key performance indicators / critical success factors as defined by upper management within day-to-day operations
- Assess current inventory, supply needs and Cost of Goods Sold. Providing Daily, Weekly and Monthly Reports.
- Create, run, and analyze management reports and use performance metrics to ensure patient satisfaction and efficient operations; document financial, inventory and patient trends; maintain sales and purchasing
- Utilize forward-looking, predictive models and activity-based financial analyses to provide insight into the dispensaries operations and business plans
- Review and reconcile cash transaction ledgers
- Manage and maintain dispensary POS and Inventory Management software and/or systems; ensure systems meet all operations, reporting, and compliance needs; troubleshoot system and software issues
- Facilitate building maintenance, including performing minor repair work and managing necessary contractors such as IT, cleaners, plumbers, painters, carpenters, HVAC and electricians
- Ensure building and grounds maintenance
- Perform any and all duties as necessary to maintain the successful, secure and compliant operation of the dispensary
Skills and Job Requirements
Must already possess or be able to qualify to receive a state issued marijuana license and be 21 years of age or older. Must have no felony convictions and must successfully pass an extensive background check. Must have reliable transportation.
Knowledge: Working knowledge of medical and/or retail marijuana. Knowledge of local and state laws and regulations pertaining to medical and/or retail marijuana.
Skill: Reporting and information management, Microsoft Office, process management, team problem solving, inventory control, and medical and/or retail marijuana policy and law
Ability: Strong problem solving, communication and organizational skills, anticipatory thinking, calculating, multi-tasking, attention to details, conflict resolution, teamwork, and professionalism, accountability, and proactive active behavior. Your success and happiness in this position will require positive behavior, a cooperative nature, and self-motivation.
Education or Formal Training: Higher education diploma, Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required.
Experience: Minimum five (5) years of retail management experience and management of 10+ individuals.
Working Environment: Indoor retail store.
Physical Activities: Physical aptitude and health necessary to perform manual labor tasks required for the proper management of the Dispensary. Can include: sitting, standing, stooping, stretching, walking, bending, twisting, reaching, performing repetitive motions, carrying boxes, and ability to lift up to 75 lbs. and push/pull up to 100 lbs.
Must be able to work at least 40 hours per week, including some evenings and weekends.
